Excerpt from Daily Cures, Wisdom for Healthy Aging by Connie Mason Michaelis
Fountain of youth, right this way! The marketplace is counting on the fact that you are searching for this elusive promise. So much media advertisement is focused on anti-aging. There is big money in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food supplements, exercise equipment, gyms, et.al. Quite frankly, anti-aging is an oxymoron. Do you really want to quit aging? When looking at the alternatives, I’d say we want to continue aging! Ponce de Leon encountered a poison arrow in his search for eternal youth, but I suggest there is a better way.
Sophia Loren, at 83, found a true fountain, “There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” That life-giving elixir is streaming inside each one of us. It is my observation there are two kinds of people, the fountains and the drains. You know immediately when you are in the presence of someone who enhances life or someone who saps the life out of you! So many of the Elders I have met over the years are truly fountains. They are kind and accepting. When they share their stories, it always
involves gratefulness for their families, friends, and many blessings. When you meet the grumpy ones, you quickly learn to smile because you know that, for some reason, they are incredibly needy and have nothing to give. Abe Lincoln surmised that folks are usually about as happy as they make up their minds to be. So, we all have a choice, be a fountain or
a drain!
